39 And Counting…

Ha, you thought 39 was my age, didn’t you?

Oh…. you knew I was way older?

That obvious, huh?

Fine. I’ll get on with the post…

Yesterday was our 39th wedding anniversary. I thought it would be fun to reminisce with some wedding-related photos.

That hand looks a good deal older than it did when I first got my rings.

First, Brent and I shopped together for our rings. He “popped the question” some months later, on the Texas A&M campus. The gold and diamond represent his geology major. The flowers embossed on the bands (they’re on Brent’s band, too) represent my floriculture major. Oh–the ring on my pinky is my mother’s wedding ring, which I recently started wearing.

Then of course you have wedding invitations printed. We keep a framed copy on a table next to a photo from our reception.

At last the Big Day arrived. My dad walked me down the church aisle, over little tissue paper hearts that we fixed for the flower girl to scatter, because rose petals might stain the snazzy new apple-green carpet. Yes, I saved some of the hearts for the wedding album. Note: I can assure you Dad was a lot happier than he looks in the photo.

Once we’d been officially joined in matrimony, it was time for Cake! Melina, my Aggie bridesmaid, brought her “Steve Martin arrow-through-the-head” to keep things fun. Naturally, Dad jumped at the chance for a bit of harmless shenanigans. Oh, man, lookit those glasses on me!

While preparing this post, I got to wondering: Do we still have any of our original wedding gifts? Aside from our nicer flatware, this is the only one that came to mind. Notice the unappetizing ’70s harvest gold and avocado green backgrounds in the cover photo.

Speaking of the ’70s, I’ve saved the best for last. This photo was taken at a shower hosted by Brent’s mother’s best friend, Madalyn. Oh. My. Word. Could there be any more flowers in that picture?

I’ve enjoyed this stroll down memory lane, and appreciate your indulging me by coming along.

Thanks for reading,
Jan

You would fall over laughing at our wedding pictures. What was I thinking when I selected the colors! I still have and use several of our wedding presents. Our anniversary is Monday. Maybe I will share some memories.

My church had the same light fixture as yours did! I also received the Betty Crocker recipe book and still use it. We have been married 41 years.
